Mad cow disease Is it a problem in Italy?

I will be traveling to Florence in February and am concerned about the recent news of mad cow disease in Europe. Is it alright to order beef in Firenze?

I read in a newspaper last week that they found an infected cow in Italy and that McDonald's there has bought beef from this supplier.

I'm going to France and Italy in a couple of months and plan to stay FAR away from beef!

stay away from beef if You can. the Italians dont check for cow disease, so they say Italia is free of it. just like the Germans did a few month ago and a few other countries still do now.

Well, the Italians do check for the disease, that's why they have found two cases. But people, look at the statistical risk. You are more likely to win the lottery than eat an infected cow. But if you are still concerned, don't eat beef. Simple enough.

The sale of beef in Italy is down 90%.
So if the Italians are worried why shouldn't be you?
