Macron signals Americans may visit summer 2021

I'm not ready to book a flight yet but there may be some hope on the horizon for travel to France.

“We are working hard to propose a very concrete solution, especially for U.S. citizens who are vaccinated,” Macron said in an
interview on CBS’s Face the Nation, which aired on April 18.

I read in another article which I can't find at the moment that talks are ongoing between the French government and the White House.

Since the two countries are allies, any information to the contrary would ge astounding.

We have tickets to France for November. I won't let myself get super excited and have only booked one place.

There is also the issue of reciprocity. When the USA allows EU/Schengen citizens to travel as tourists to the United States again, the EU is more likely to lift its ban on US non-essential travelers. Schengen countries, e.g. Greece, are beginning to go it alone and open up their countries to tourism.

We have tickets for September ( bumped a few times.....!) and are so hopeful this will be so....

TPAYT Apr 23rd, 2021 08:39 AM

Ah.....So many birthdays were spent during September in Paris.

Traviata.......we’ll let you know if we can be there this year.

kerouac Apr 23rd, 2021 08:57 AM

I would say that September is about the earliest date that most foreign visitors can hope for. It is still summer until the 21st.

Traviata Apr 23rd, 2021 09:25 AM

TPAYT.......if we get there,, we will be thrilled to meet for dinner or drinks...fingers crossed!

If September doesn’t work out then just before Christmas would also be wonderful. Hopefully the lights, the markets, the restaurants would be going strong.

I like to quote the book “Living Well” where the author’s wife says, “A year shall not pass without going to Paris.” I was last there in Nov. 2019 so it has been more than a year and counting.

Of course the main thing is getting Covid under control. Until that happens Paris will remain a lovely memory.

Summer - france open to US citizens

I heard that it is very likely that France will be allowing visitors from the US over the summer

There was some news yesterday that June 9th would be the day, for non-EU foreign tourists, with a "pass sanitaire". June 30th is a broader opening for the country (end of curfew), however. Somewhat conditional on hitting targets and further details to be announced.

France opening in summer

Do you need a vaccine to go to europe this summer or would a covid test suffice?
