Maastricht or Liege or ? for a Night/Half Day?
Which should be spend a night/morning in - Maastricht or Liege? I'm not that interested in museums or churches, and my focus is mostly photography. I have not been anywhere in the Netherlands except Amsterdam, and am just beginning to research a place to spend the night between Frankfurt and Paris. I originally thought of Strasbourg, but it sounds so much like many of the other places we'll visit later in Germany, so now I'm curious about Maastricht, Liege, Metz, and Nancy. Luxembourg City looks wonderful, but we'll be there (briefly) a week later. Orleans and Tours are far from Frankfurt, so those were ruled out, too. I don't want to be more than 3 1/2 hours away from either Frankfurt or Paris.

For us, Maastricht would be a very good choice. Richard http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maastricht

I spent a few days in Maastricht and really enjoyed it. The many squares full of cafes and shopping streets are really charming. Nice areas to walk around in both sides of the Maas. I filed a short trip report which you should be able to find by clicking on my name.

I am a big fan of Maastricht, not so much of Liège. Liège has a bigger city feeling and on our visit wasn't so clean. Maastricht is a small city I could visit again and again. I have been a couple of times in the winter and it's beautiful when the Christmas lights are lit up. It's quite different to cities like Amsterdam, even though it's the same country.
