M_kingdom2 is off to Seville
 

Unfortunately I've been so very busy this year that I've been unable to plan something much in advance, next week I've found time for a quick trip to Seville. The weather promises to be considerably hotter than London, and there are a couple of local designers whose work I'm keen to see too.

I'm leaving on Sunday for four nights, and staying at Alfonso XIII.

As always I will be posting a full trip report upon my return at the end of the next week!

I remember being pretty interested in your Hamburg report, especially re the Atlantic Hotel (since I have stayed there as well).

We will be staying at the Alfonso (after considerable soul-searching) in July so I'll be interested in that "report" as well.

I have to say that reading some of the "reviews" on TripAdvisor I have begun to question the so-called "standards" frequently quoted by travelers from the United Kingdom when they stay in hotels....so I guess we'll see about all of that.

Have a very pleasant trip and make your report as outrageous as ever...they do help liven up the place that's for sure.

The Alfonso XIII hotel is said to be the most luxurious one in Seville (not modern one).
Welcome to the Spanish almost summer weather, hehehe.

I've also been reading reviews on tripadvisor. As with everything, I think that individual issues with service are singular incidents, and people tend to over-egg these on tripadvisor. As for the style of the property, one must appreciate that it is an old building (which hasn't recently undergone a major refurb) so one must expect "classic" fittings.

On a side note, Hotel Arts which tripadvisor reviewers seem to love, and another property in Madeira (both of which I've stayed at) were both a little disappointing (Arts was excellent, but the clientele spoilt it walking through the lobby barefoot)... one man's meat is another man's poison.

Hopefully I'll enjoy Alfonso XIII, I'm expecting it to be similar in quality to The Atlantic in Hamburg, but with more striking décor!

I was in Seville for Holy Week - you may want to try Poncio for lunch or dinner, located in Triana - try the menu degustacion - contemporary andalucian cuisine.

M-k2, have a great time. I hope Seville won't disappoint you. I had no idea Sevillanos were very fashion conscious. If you enjoy architecture, history, music and literature I'm sure you'll have a blast.

I stayed at that Alfonso hotel when I was in Sevilla. Is it really the best hotel in the city? It seemed rather lackluster to me. I had broncitis when I was in Sevilla, so I spent a lot of time in bed with a bottle of cava on the nightstand.

I did go to see a Flamenco show at Gallos. I thought it was fantastic. One of the female dancers looked exactly like a young Angela Lansbury.

I also saw so many hotties walking around. The men of Sevilla will melt your zipper, sweetie. :)

I was wondering where you'd be staying. I really like Seville, but it has a definite lack of quality hotels. Some of their top hotels are really kind of second-rate in comparison to other cities, and some are downright depressing-looking. I think Alfonso is definitely the best one, though.

They might not be your cup of tea, ruffles and flowers, (although they have just begun a men´s collection, and it seems nice), but their craftmanship is absolutely amazing. Their clothes are simply beautiful, and so are their leatherware (love the handbags).

Personally, I think that last year´s wedding of the century would have been much better if the bride would have chosen them ... but I suspect that Letizia is not so much into those ruffles and silk and movement ...

They have a house in Santa Cruz, and I remembered reading some place that they were planning to allow visitors. The house was really beautiful, very andalusian and very tasteful.

After a hellish return flight (a delay at both ends totalling over six hours...) I'm back from Seville!

It was a most enjoyable break, and I'll try to find some time over the weekend to write a full report on hotels, restaurants, attractions, etcetera!
