lyon hotels

Going to be in Lyon, France, in May. Would like hotel suggestions. Must have non-smoking rooms, and a/c. Considering Sofitel Lyon Bellecour, Hotel Le Royal Lyon, Cour des Loges. Would appreciate comments on these or any other hotel of this category.

Thank you!! mgg

We stayed at the Sofitel last September and were very happy with the hotel. We could walk to most of the sites we wanted to see and the hotel was close to the metro when we chose to use it.

We didn't eat at the hotel's Michelin starred restaurant but did have one late dinner at their casual restaurant, which was fine. The hotel has a bar on the top floor which, when it is not too cloudy, has wonderful views of Mont Blanc.

Try http://www.venere.com/france/lyon/# for hotels in Lyon.

They have about 100 listed, you can compare pricing, location and reviews by folks that have stayed there in the past.

Eat a one of the many fabulous restaurants. Not cheap.

I stayed at Cour de Loges. Loved it. I really liked being in Vieux Lyon.

I'll second the Cour des Loges, it has more character and charm than the other two combined (I think) and as Grasshopper says, the location can't be beaten.

I've eaten at the Sofitel (Silk, rather than Les Trois Domes) and as Judy said, it's absolutely fine. It's definitely one of the better casual hotel restaurants I've eaten at and the night I was there, I had the good fortune to be sat at a table next to Mathilda May who was in a play in Lyon at the time.

She certainly added to the charm of the place and I think that if it's good enough for her, it's good enough for me. Mind you, the amount of time I spent glancing in her direction, it's a miracle I ever finished my meal...

Thank you for your help. Hope to get lodging in one of the two commented on above. Also, thanks for adding info on Silk. Good to know. mgg

Can't help with the hotels but do recommend Giovany's restaurant. 3 place del a Baleine, 04 72 40 99 26. Was there in 2010 and it was wonderful. It's just off Rue St. Jean and a couple of block from the Mairie.

I recommend Charme Hotels

The whole place is very lovely, we did not stay in the hotel but did eat in the restaurant. The food was of very good quaility. Quiet and refined, they preparied a special meal for our daughter that was not on the menu. It was lovely. We will be back. 40 euros for a three course dinnerl. 24 euros for lunch. I have paid more to eat at the holiday inn and it does not compare to this place.
