lyon hotel deals

I am having quite some trouble finding a nice hotel in Lyon for late September....especially with the poor state of the Australian dollar. Has anyone stayed at the Central Hotel and could you comment? Also cant find any reference to the two nights for price of one deal which is supposed to exist at weekends...have seen slightly reduced weekend rates, that's all. Can anyone enlighten me as this is the only part of a month-long trip which I am having problems with.

In may I spent two nites(Friday & saturday)at the Hotel des Beaux Arts- <BR>About $150.00 in US dollars per nite but they had a two for one deal on the weekend. This was a three star hotel with large rooms(at least mine as that was very comfortable) and a breakfast was included in the price. It was located right in the middle of everything-Great location. YOU MUST ASK <BR>for the 2 for 1 DEAL and confirm this in writing via fax or e-mail. <BR> <BR>E mail address is [email protected] <BR>phone # is 04 78 38 09 50 <BR>Fax # is 04 78 42 19 19 <BR> <BR>Chris

We stayed at an inexpensive but comfortable hotel on Frommer's web site (http://www.frommers.com/destinations/main_europe.html) 3 years ago. Hotel de Normandie, 3 Rue du Belier, 69002 Lyon, phone 04/78373136 or fax 04/72409856. Directly behind Perrache station. A quote from Frommer's site at that time, which we found to be accurate… "Instead of looking railroad-station sad and tired--as if exploiting a guest's willingness to accept anything at the end of a long journey--the people in charge of the Normandy have chosen to dress up their rooms with well-chosen fabrics, and wall paintings." Baths were new, too, then. Checked and did not see it in their listings of Lyon hotels now. Or you might try the Lyon tourist office www.lyon-france.com. We've also stayed (5 years ago) at the Hôtel Globe et Cécil, 21 rue Gasparin (about 5 years ago for one night). Nearer city center and a bit nicer. But we didn't spend a lot of time in our rooms either time.

Try this site (the Lyon Convention and Visitors Bureau) for info. about the Lyon Discover weekend: <BR>http://www.lyon-france.com/pages/en/.../article2.html <BR> <BR>Like Chris, I stayed at the Beaux Arts and liked it a lot even though I didn't get the two-for-one weekend special. Price in 1999 was about U.S. $110 for a double. Great location. The large sparkling bathroom was memorable.

I don't know about 2 for 1 hotel deals but if this helps a friend and I stayed at a very central and nice simple 1 star called the Elysee for about $60US per night for a double with bath, 92 rue Pres. E Jerriot, Tel 04 78 42 03 15. This was last September. The hotel was listed in Michelin and indeed, we found the Michelin one and two stars quite good - clean, comfortable and affordable in many cities in France.
