Lyon - Gare de Perrache area?
 

Hello,<BR>Will be spending a day in Lyon next month, and for convenience's sake, we'd like to stay at a hotel by the Gare de Perrache. Can anyone tell me what the area is like (seedy, nice, safe, etc.) or if anyone has any hotel recommendations in the area.<BR>Thanks,<BR>Tina

I just stayed at Hotel La Residence [email protected] <BR><BR>It is on Rue de Victor Hugo which is a straight line down the escalators and across the park and street from Perrache. It's a pedestrian shopping street and a block from Place Bellecour. From there, cross the river to Vieux Lyon for dinner. <BR><BR>When you are arriving at Perrache, sit on the right side of the train and watch the view as soon as you cross the first river. Tres belle.

Tina,<BR>Conversely, this is a good place to stay.It's been awhile, but the hotel Bourdeau was great when we were there last-easily walkable from the train station.

And when you cross the river to the vieux for dinner, eat at Les Adrets on rue de Bouef (make a resv). Incidently Grasshoper, I stayed at La Residence in June 02. Great place/location and very reasonable priced. Lyon was definately one of the high points of our 3 weeks in France. I will definately return.<BR>Bonne chance,<BR>Gregg

Thanks for your replies. Hotel la Residence was already booked up on the date I will be in Lyon! Will check Hotel Bordeaux but does anyone have any other thoughts? I've seen some hotels just north of the station (a good 5 min walk). Is this a good area?<BR>Thanks!

The area immediately around Perrache is a typical train station area, however a few minutes' walk toward the center of the city improves the area considerably. <BR><BR>Try the other side of the Rhone (6th, 3rd arr.) A cab ride isn't cost prohibitive, you may be able to use the Part Dieu station instead of Perrache, and the walk to say, Place Bellecour would only be 10-15 min -- and a pleasant one at that.

There are several hotels on Rue de Victor Hugo and any one would be ok and an easy walk from Perrache. You might ask La Residence to let you know if they have a cancellation to let you know. I do that a lot and almost always get a room.
