Lycian rock tombs – where?

We are flying from Keyseri to Dalaman (via Istanbul), where we will rent a car and drive to Kas. Before heading to Kas, I was originally thinking to take a detour to Dalyan, to see the Lycian rock tombs. Our flight lands in Dalaman at 12:45 pm.

Is this detour feasible? Do we have enough time for it (and a stop for lunch somewhere), or should we see the Lycian rock tombs next to Fethiye instead?

Can someone compare the 2 sites? Which one do you recommend in our time frame? We are going in October, when sunset is around 6:30 pm. Thanks

I would go immediately to Dalyan for lunch at the Carreta Carreta restaurant which has a nice view of the tombs - http://www.carettacaretta.net/html/foto_e.htm

Sorry, spelling - that's Caretta Caretta (as in loggerhead turtle).

The rock tombs at Fethiye are few and not very exciting. However, you will see great ones, very close up at Myra, not far from Kas.

I forgot how close you can get to the ones at Kaunos, near Dalyan but I remember not climbing up to them when I visited them in 1966.

Also, the rock tombs at Kaunos are not Lycian. They are Carian (Karian?)

Caretta Caretta looks very nice, we might just do that - have a nice lunch with a great view, then drive slowly to Kas.

OC, yes, Myra is one of the sites we will visit from Kas, but now I need to go and start reading about Carian/Karian...new history lesson for me :)
Thanks
