Lviv vs. Odesa vs Kyiv

Hey folks,

I am a 33 year old American medical student in my last year of medical school that has some time off to study for my boards. My undergrad degree specialized in history, particularly Soviet history from 1945 to the collapse, so I have do an interest in Ukrainian culture but I do not speak Russian or Ukrainian. I am looking to spend 4 weeks in Odesa, Kyiv or Lviv. Would like to study during the day but in the evening head out and see some places and hopefully meet some people. Wondering what you all would recommend?

We visited Kiev, Vinnytsia, and Odessa this summer. Kiev has very much the capital city feel, has an interesting WWII museum plus other cultural sites. A good number of people spoke some English but nothing you can count on. for this reason, Uber comes in handy rather than taxis. Many restaurants do provide translations in English.

Odessa is known for a lot of Russian vacationers. We stayed near the Potemkin Stairs and was in easy walking distance to shopping and cafes... English language used more rarely than in Kiev. Maybe you can learn a few phrases in Russian to help smooth out the bumps. Lviv is on our list for next time.

While not knowing much about you, you might meet people if you like clubbing... One of my relatives met his future wife that way a couple of years ago. Good luck with your planning!
