Luzern or Bern (or some other place?)
I have two free nighs in the middle of my upcoming trip that I am reserving for Zermatt if the weather is good. If the forecast is terrible, where do you suggest I head to? I'm thinking Luzern or Bern but I'm open to suggestions. I'll be departing from Chamonix.
Note that the B.O. and Lausanne are already on my itinerary.
Thanks all

Luzern, yes, but if you have some free time and want to visit Bern, take the scenic train that goes past Entlebuch rather than the boring one that goes via Zofingen. It takes longer (1.5 hours v 1 hour) but is a prettier ride.

I haven't been that many places in Switzerland but I visited Luzern in August a few years back and I loved it. The town and its surroundings are absolutely beautiful! I didn't get a lot of sleep there though because I didn't know beforehand that the bells of the clock tower would ring all through the night...and my hotel was right beneath it! Not sure if that's still the case but something for you to keep in mind when choosing your hotel. (I stayed at Hotel Zum Weissen Kreuz.)
Visiting Mt. Pilatus during my stay in Luzern was one of the best day trips I have ever taken! You boat across the lovely lake, then take the world's steepest cog railway up to the top if the mountain, take in the breathtaking alpine views, then you can luge part way down (fun!), take a gondola the rest of the way to the bottom, where you then can take a bus back to town.
