Luzern hotels
Any ideas on a good hotel in Luzern? We'll be there for 3 days in Mid-April, and will be traveling with our 9 year old daughter.

Thanks

clancy,

I absolutely loved the Hotel des Balances on the river. It's a four-star hotel with killer views of the river and the Jesuit church and with a wonderful restaurant. I believe the website is www.balances.ch.

s

We used the Zum Weissen Kreuz, Furrengasse 19 in old town and were quite happy with it. It has nice rooms, a very nice breakfast service, and there is a really good Italian restuarant in the lower level (it is owned by Italian Swiss). The location is superb right in the heart of the old town and just on the river. Highly recommeded. For more information you may see http://dest.travelocity.com/DestGuid...|27990,00.html
Good evening, Clancy
We have always used the HOTEL WILDENMANN
, Bahnhofstrasse, 50 about 6 or 7 times
in the last 30 years, have been satisified with it along with the
ristorante and stubi on the first floor,
however the suggestion of Des Balances
is a very good choice also.
Richard of La Grange Park, Il..

Clancy
All of the hotels mentioned above would be good choices (we like the Zum Weissen Kreuz). One other hint that will be of value if you plan to have a car. If you do stay in the old town, which I would recommend, parking is a major problem. I know that the Zum Weissen Kreuz provides an overnight pass that you place on the dash board which allows you to park overnight on the street, but finding a place to park is next to impossible. It takes a lot of driving around and around and waiting to get lucky to find a spot, and then the car must be moved by (I think) 9 the next morning. I finally just chose to park in the large underground garage at the main train station which is just across the river from old town. This was much simpler, easier, and while not free it was worth the cost to me to save the hassle of trying to find a place to park. So, my advice to you, if you are driving, just bit the bullet, pay to park at the train station, and relieve yourself of one major hassle. Luzern is a wonderful city and you will love it.

Thanks for the advice - we're not going to have a car so all of the hotels mentioned sound great. While I've got you knowledgeable people here, roughly how long will it take to get from Paris to Luzern by train? Is it a pleasant trip? Thanks again

Clancy

A little over 5 hours to Basel, then change there for an hour-plus train to Luzern. Depending on the time of day, almost 8 hrs with the connection.

Details on www.sncf.com - - maybe other sites just as good.
