luxury ski family resorts Europe

Hello, I would appreciate if anyone could offer some ideas: family of 4 (kids are 19 and 6). We wish to take a ski holiday in Europe in Dec (xmas+new year) preferably in France or Switzerland (but could also consider others). My wife and kids are beginners and they do not necessarily like travelling up/down for too long. The apre-ski is also important (nice restaurants + shopping,) and we tend to favour the luxurious stream (money not a problem at all). Maybe this year they wish to take up a ski school for beginners.. so I need to factor that in. We liked Gstaad and have been around switzerland and France over the years. I was thinking of Megeve but I'm afraid that December may not be so snowy there. I found Zermatt and St Anton too crowded/noisy.. any suggestions? many thanks

Courchevel 1850 would be a good spot for shopping, luxury accomodation and good snow. And lots of kids in the resort...
I am currently there and it snowed like mad yesterday....
Hope this will help.

Megeve is a risk for snow in December. Tignes is high rise, not very attractive. Val d' Isere may be better.
Haven't been to Courchevel, but it's a luxury resort with great snow.

Or maybe Lech, in Austria?

Do be aware that hotels are full very quickly for that period, and most will want you to stay a week at least. Some hotels will only book for two weeks. And they will generally give priority to regulars, who book every year for the next year.

If you are looking for luxury resorts, St. Moritz (and nearby placers like Sils-Maria, Pontresina) is the best that Switzerland can offer. You may also check Zermatt, Davos, Verbier or Cortina d'Ampezzo in Italy.
