Luxury Paris Hotel Questions
I am deciding between three Paris Hotels: George V, Le Meurice, and the Bristol.
Does anyone know what category of room I would need to book at each hotel to get the best Parisian view? Also, are the rooms at these hotels fresh and new looking or are they worn and tired? Any tips on the side of the hotel or the best actual room numbers? TIA Fodors Experts!!!! |
Depending upon how long you will be staying, I would opt for a Paris Perfect Apt. Some are MUCH nicer than the normal rooms at those 3 Hotels.
Even though I can afford the rooms there, I feel the atmosphere to stuffy/snooty for me, would much rather be in a very nice apt (ie: PP)or at a small boutique Hotel instead, there are many in Paris, that are much nicer. One for example is Hotel Pont Royal in the 7th, next door to one of the nicest restaurants: Atelier Joel Rubichon. The rooms are nicer and the staff more attentive. much less snooty. I think the 3 hotels plus the Ritz have a long old reputation that they are living on, while others are more refreshing. Too many people go for the prestige names, even though there are many that are both more expensive and nicer. Just MOO (My Own Opinion). |
The best option is to call the hotels and ask which rooms have a good view. The Meurice was renovated about a year ago.

The Bristol and the George V have no really good views. The Meurice has very good views of the Tuilleries.
But of course you are on Rue de Rivoli which is a tourist kind of street. I must say I kind of like that neigborhood. Close to the left bank and the bridges. |
I would also select a Paris Perfect apartment as someone else stated. parisperfect.com. Happy Travels!

We definitely want to stay in a hotel instead of an apartment. Any other thoughts on the three hotels?

Several months ago one of the travel magazines compared and contrasted the top luxury hotels in Paris. I'm sorry to be so vague but perhaps you could Google the article. It was either Conde Nast Travel, National Geographic Traveler, or Travel and Leisure.
And this post has done you absolutely no good at all, has it :-( , but maybe someone else saw the article and can remember more about it. |

I have never stayed at any of these hotels but my friend loves George V. If I am not mistaken, it is a Four Season property. Can't go wrong with that.
For location, I would stay at the Le Meurice. |
I don't think of the Bristol as having a view.
The George V has been recently renovated. My office is across the street from it and two years ago were were horrified to watch them take out about 200 televisions and throw them in a disposal bin. Meanwhile, its next door neighbor, the Prince de Galles, was bought by a Saudi family this week. So now both hotels are Saudi owned. |
