We stayed at the Park Lane Hotel a couple of years ago. We had a beautiful room overlooking Green Park. There was a bedroom with a King (or queen?) and a sitting room with a twin-sofa bed. It wasn't exactly spacious, but the bathroom was huge, and the service was excellent. It was a very classy, elegant, "old fashioned" hotel--definitely luxury class. I can't remember how much we paid, but I know we did not pay more than $500. We would definitely stay there again.
Have fun!

I guess I should have clarified that we booked a suite, not a room.

I have been looking around at hotels and have found some that I like. Thanks to whomever found the Langham (excellent find, they even have a family room!). I also found some other places such as Number 16 and Covent Garden as well as a place called the Colonnade. Are any of these as nice, or even better than the Langham? Also, has the Langham been renovated or is it being renovated now.
Thanks again to everyone! Ideas are still welcome.

In Paris The Francois Premier. In London The Washington Mayfair. Both excellent, well situated with first class service and rooms.

What about apartments? Are there any companies that rent out really nice apartments and offer many services that are found in hotels. Does any one know the name of that rental agency Samantha Brown used in Paris, because that could be an option.

Sam Brown is a TV travel personality. The Paris apt. mentioned was seen on her show Passport to Europe. It was lovely.

If you can't find the name via the travel channel web site, it appears that on the 29th there is a marathon of P to E, one Paris show is on the schedule (I've seen two different Paris episodes) for 9 AM.

I can't help you with Paris but would recommend the Royal Garden Hotel in London. We've stayed there twice and each time the service was excellent. The hotel is located on High Street in Kensington.

For that money, I'd rather have two rooms (and not have to share a bathroom with the two boys) in a nice 2 or 3 star hotel in Paris. My teens loved the Latin Quarter.

Thanks, I have given up on the Poker Channel (formerly known at the Travel Channel). Can there possibly be anything more boring that watching people play cards on TV, and what does it have to do with travel? Its the highest rated show on that channel so there's no chance of it being removed.

Yes, it should be renamed The Poker Channel. I wish they'd show those Samantha Brown episodes instead!

Hi

In Paris what about the 4* Hotel du Jeude Paume - http://www.jeudepaumehotel.com.

In London see http://www.londonguestsuites.com/tem...y.cfm?apt=1347. There are plenty of others on the website too.

Good luck

It would be useful to have your definition of a luxury hotel--that means different things to different people.

For luxury, I mean at least Westin quality. Hope that helps!

Our long-time favorite in London is Brown's, but we haven't been back since the entire place was renovated; I don't know whether the old-world charm is still there, but at one time it was the essence of Olde England.

Your London list includes several we researched for our trip next month. We decided on The Capital - staff has been extremely helpful with reservations for our rooms (traveling with family so need two) at great rate which includes breakfast and airport pickup , dinner reservations, theater tickets. Also, great location, tube access, etc. Other choices you listed which looked good for us were Parkes and Goring. Let us know what you decide and why - and enjoy your trip.
