Luxembourg Christmas Market
Has anyone been to the Christmas market in Luxembourg City? Is it worth visiting from the Trier area? Any other small ones in the area that may be weekend only?
|
No, but in northern France the market at Lille is supposed to be one of the best.
|
Thanks, I won't be near Lille this trip, but will keep it in mind for another time.

Still checking to see if anyone has been to the Luxembourg, Trier or Saarbrucken markets or any small town ones in this area. Thanks.

We went to the Trier market last year: although, it's not very big, it had more hand-made products (candles, jewelry, etc.) than mass-produced items for sale.
Almost one-third of the stalls sold greenery/flowers for household decoration and it seemed to be mostly local people with very few tourists in attendance. (Be sure to try the onion fritters; they were the best food we had at any market!) Luxembourg City makes a good daytrip from Trier. If you have time, I’d also recommend visiting the stunning Metz Cathedral in France. We saw the Luxembourg market being set up but it wasn’t open for business when we were there. If the market is open in Bernkastel-Kues try to visit it--lots of timbered buildings and pretty winding streets. Have a terrific trip! |
Although it's a couple hours away, the Strasbourg Christmas market is supposed to be huge and very good.
|
Absolutely go to Strasbourg instead. It has a variety of different Christmas markets, including one devoted exclusively to Christmas trees, ornaments and lights (220V) at Place de Broglie on the tramway line.
