Luton to South Kensington Station

Short of using JustAirports, I'm trying to figure out the least painful way to get myself from Luton to the South Kensington Tube Station. I'll have one good size suitcase, so I'd like to avoid stairs, if possible..

1) My first thought was train from Luton to Farringdon. Transfer to the Circle Line. I gather that all the trains are on the same level. That said, will I have to go upstairs to but a TravelCard? Or can I do that at the airport train station?

2) Second thought was the bus to Victoria. Hop a cab to final destination just off Walton Street.

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. If anyone knows the escalator/stairs situation at Farringdon and South Ken that would be great too. Thanks.

Train to St Pancras or Kings Cross Thameslink, Picadilly Line to South Kensington

The best way to avoid stairs, IMO, is to ride the bus. They don't take significantly longer than a Tube trip, portal to portal. Furthermore, you can often find a bus that requires no changes, or at most getting off one bus and on another one at the same stop (a pia in the Tube).

On the Journey Planner at www.tfl.gov.uk, click Advanced Options and uncheck Tube and Rail after you put in your From and To. The #10 will take you straight from St Pan to Walton Place.

That was my first thought but I gather that it is a much easier transfer at Farringdon. Isn't Kings Cross Thameslink a bit of a hike to the tube station?

Thanks everyone. Robespierre, It's Walton Street @ Hasker vs. Walton Place re: #10... JustAirpots at 47 GBP is ounding better and better. I don't think that there is an easy way to do this via train without stairs.

Another option might be the National Express bus from Luton airport to Victoria Coach Station, and the C1 bus from there to Brompton Square, then walk down Yeoman's Row, which brings you out on to Walton St a few yards from the junction with Hasker St.

PatrickLondon, Thank you. That sounds like a perfect solution. It might take a little longer but it shounds far less painful and cheaper.
