Kim,

If your destination is near, say Green Park tube station, it looks like Stansted would be marginally more convenient: take the Stansted Express train to Tottenham Hale, transfer to the Victoria Line underground. Total trip should take about 1.5 hrs.

That said, I have only used Luton, Gatwick & Heathrow, never Stansted. However it appears that the trains to/from Stansted arrive right in the terminal, while you need to take a shuttle bus at Luton.

Travel time from Luton airport train station is less (about an hour), but the shuttle bus is another 10-20 minutes and it's an extra (small) hassle. You would take the Thameslink train to Kings Cross, then change to the Victoria Line.

Both airport links are frequent (every 15 mins. approx.)

All in all, go with the cheapest air fare. Travel times might differ more significantly depending on the closest tube stop to your destination however. Also don't forget flights coming in to Heathrow and Gatwick - they can be competitive as well.

Useful web sites:
http://www.stanstedexpress.com/
http://www.thameslink.co.uk
http://www.thetube.com
