Luton Airport

Does anyone have any recommendations on transport from central London to the Luton airport? Does anyone know how far it actually is? I'm interested in finding the fastest, safest way to get there.

Train and shuttle bus, or coach are the best ways, depending on where you are leaving from in London

Unless you intend to streak, rollerblade or use a pogostick I wouldn't say that there are any unsafe ways to Luton Airport

And especially attempting all three simultaneously...

Presumably by "safe", you're not referring to highway robbers (though in the 18th century they were almost as efficient at rooking passengers on Hounslow Heath as BAA are these days at the airport now built on it).

Nor to guerila attacks from the Harlesden People's Liberation Army.

You're presumably concerned if any route is unsafe for people expeccting transport to run to schedule. If so, the Thameslink train is generally reliable: bus services to Luton are a lot more punctual than services to Stansted or Gatwick. But all roads out of London can be iffy, and you're most likely to keep to time if you use the train.

"trains are very regular"

Except on some weekends. Often a bus is substituted for the regular train service due to track works. But any other day the train is fairly foolproof.
