Lurnrbuger Heide

Has anyone heard of this region in Germany which is known for its purple flowers for miles & miles. Have tried to find it on the intenet, no such luck. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Andrea

I am living in this area. It's wonderful! The purple flowers are blooming in August. There are beautiful towns in this area as well like Lueneburg and Celle. Also Hamburg is very close.

Hi Karen: We will be there the 2nd week in Sept. Are the flowers still blooming? Also any sights in and around the area not to be missed, restaurants, etc. We enjoy doing what the locals do. This will be out first time going north as we usually head down to the Alps. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Andrea

Luneburg is a gem that is overlooked by most tourists because it is in the north, near Hamburg. I think it's the loveliest town in Germany (but my grandfather was born near there so I'm prejudiced). It was once a very wealthy town due to salt production so it has wonderful old buildings, many of them tilting due to soil problems. It was never bombed in the world wars so it really is original. Just walk around the town and be sure to go to the old city hall (closed on Mondays). DON'T miss this town!
