Lunch stop between Shannon and Clifden
Can anyone recommend a good place to stop for lunch between Shannon airport and Clifden? I know Galways's in between, but we've all been there before and given that we'll have jet lag we might prefer something a little more low key. Thanks.

Hi: I wish I could remember the name of the pub--there's a nice pub on the left hand side of the road (I think the building is yellow) before you get to Ennis. There aren't a lot of places to stop, so I do think you might be able to find it. They had good food--a little parking area right in front. Stopping in Galway could get difficult ( always like to get just past there with all those roundabouts), and once past Galway there really aren't any places to eat till you get to Clifden. Otherwise Ennis would work too--lots of places there. Enjoy Clifden and Connemara--it's a wonderful area.

One of my favorite restaurants in all of Ireland is Boluisce in Spiddal just West of Galway. Great seafood, the chowder is to die for, and the homemade brown bread is the best that I have ever had. It is located on the North side of the street, just down from Standuns, which is also a must for shopping.

Just to be aware--to go to Spiddal on the way to Clifden would add considerable time to the drive. I was thinking just straight out on the N59. I think there may be a place in Oughterard too. Depends on how far you want to go before you eat. I recall it's about a three hour drive.

I would recommend Moran's of Weir (south of Galway near Clarinbridge), Paddy Burkes in Clarinbridge or O'Faharta's in Oughterard.

If you can bear to wait until you get to Clifden there's a nice pub with a wondrous seafood pie right in "downtown" Clifden. Can't remember the name, sorry, but it's at the top of the hill downtown on the landward side of the street (facing the sea). My bleary memory seems to think the exterior had a yellow color scheme, but I can't be sure. I still dream about that lunch, though.

If it was right on the corner in fron of the memorial, E.J. Kings seems to fit the description of the Pub that Worktowander describes.
