Lunch reservations for Pierluigi?

We will be arriving in Rome by train on a Saturday and would like to have lunch at Pierluigi. Do you think reservations are needed for lunch or will we be okay just walking in? We will still have our bags with us since we cannot get into our apartment until 2 PM. Pierluigi is across the street from our apartment so we thought it would be a great place to have lunch while we wait.

Thanks for all your great input. This site is awesome for help in trip planning.

Has anyone been to Pierluigi? Would it be a good place for lunch? We leave in 2 weeks and I would like to have a plan in place before we leave.

Thanks for your input.

My family had dinner there two years ago. Of the four pastas and four main courses ordered, only two of the eight were good. The rest were either very mediocre and one was inedible. Awful house wine too. Rude service. The only thing going for it is the location near Campo di fiore in a quiet piazza. There are far better places in Rome. Near your apartment are Ditirambo and Dar Pallaro, both with excellent food and service. Dar Pallaro has a set menu of many courses, wine and water for I believe 20 or 22 Euro per person.

I was there with a small group this past fall for dinner and it was very good. I doubt very much that you'll need a reservation for lunch. Have fun!

Grinisa - thanks for the info. I have read about Ditirambo and it is on my list of places to eat. I guess I didn't realize they were open for lunch. Thanks.

Cinart - Thanks! I will have fun. We leave in 13 days. I have heard good things about Pierluigi so I was surprised to hear a bad review. Glad you enjoyed it.

We had a delightful lunch at Pierluigi one October afternoon last year. Besides the excellent food we were entertained by a local who sat at a small table nearby on the piazza and typed out his memoirs based on his experiences as a limo driver in Rome. Our waiter called him Hemingway and insisted that we be introduced and had a fun conversation. Also a delightful scene as a four or so year old was feted on her birthday by family and friends, opening presents with her younger sister on the piazza cobbles. Great food, great photos, beautiful quiet location on a charming piazza and nice people.

normanoromano - Thanks for that lovely description. I know I will think of that scene now everytime we walk through that piazza. Your words make me happy that our apartment is right there. I am going to try Pierluigi for lunch the day we arrive.

We had our best meal in Rome there. I might add also that my friend, who is a rather well-known Italian chef here, also had their best meal in Rome there recently. It was just a coincidence that they even ended up there as we hadn't discussed it beforehand.

I'd make reservations if you can.

We had dinner at Pierluigi last December. The food was very good and the service outstanding. It was a highlight. We had an apartment very
near.I'd go back without hesitation.

I am happy to hear so many good reviews of Pierluigi. We leave next week and I am trying to tie up all my loose ends. We will definately have lunch there when we arrive.

billywayne - where was your apartment? We are staying on Monserrato close to Pierluigi.
