Thanks!

Try http://www.theholeinthewall.co.uk. Went there for an anniversary dinner a couple of years ago and it was lovely.

Thanks! Unfortunately, when I opened the link, all I got was a bright pink page, no text, no pictures.
We are thinking of trying the Moody Goose, if anyeone's been there...
or perhaps just grabbing a sandwich and having afternoon tea at The Pump Room.

We loved the Sally Lunn cafe because of the story behind the name and exhibit (free) in the basement. I love architecture and history so I was thrilled with a simple cross cut of all the soil/street layers since the roman times. Not everyone's cup of tea I know. Any way the place is tiny and you have to sidle amoung the tables to get to your spot, and the food was cafe food, but we still loved it. Hint- Sally Lunn came the British ears hearing the French words "Soleil et Lune". You'll have to go there to learn the rest. lynclarke

I just clicked on the http://www.theholeinthewall.co.uk/ link and it came up fine - slow-ish though even on my high speed. For a bit was only a bright pink page. but once the photos started to load it came up OK.
Maybe try again - looks very nice (haven't eaten there myself)

No luck with the hole in the wall web site for me after clicking on the link and waiting several minutes (we have high speed too). I even changed my settings to allow popups, in case that was the problem. Still just the bright pink.
Anyway, we opted to have afternoon tea at the Pump Room...just made the reservation.
We're looking forward to Bath...next week we've got a few leisure activities planned, including going to High Wycombe for an Antiques Roadshow evaluation and filming.

The Pump Room is special. I'm sure you will enjoy it and it is not very expensive when you consider the ambience, history and quality of the food. It was a memorable part of my trip to Bath. And we spent a month in Bath using it as our base.

We had to postpone our day trip to Bath as we were both so wiped out from the day with the Antiques Roadshow. However, the AR expert we spent quite a bit of time with strongly recommended skipping the Pump Room and having tea at the Holburne Museum instead. He said he stops there whenever he's in Bath and enjoys chatting with a group of ladies from the area who make a point of getting together there for tea or lunch every week. He said there was nothing wrong with the Pump Room, that it's fun for tourists and attractive, but thought we would enjoy tea at the Holburne more. So...I may go on my own this coming week and give the HM museum tea room a spin.

Not gazillions, but a pretty substantial sum (for that type of item) and the expert told us it was an "important" example; a second expert suggested a museum that might like to look at it--the first person who looked at it ran off with it to the television crew and to the BBC antiques magazine staff. But in the end, they decided against filming it. I'm writing up a little "trip report" of the day and hope to post it by Sunday.

How exciting!!! Post about Bath when you do go. I'm considering it for my next UK trip. Found a great flat to rent & I'd like a relaxing, interesting place without pressure to fit in 80 historical sites in a 2-3 weeks time.

BTilke - If you like Thai I can recommend MAI THAI - excellent food. I often eat there ...
I like the Pump Room for coffee/tea when the Pump Room Trio are playing. Classy ambience - but it's expensive for a meal IMO.

Well finally. Thanks for the info. I quit asking (or googling) for updates on the new spa a year or more ago. Seemed like it was never going to be finished. Looks like Aug 7 is the big day - unless it gets closed by the health inspectors or something. The way this project has gone it wouldn't surprise me.
Hope it is a success - on my last two visits to Bath a visit to the new Baths was on the long range plan - but never happened since the opening date got moved back year after year.
