Lunch in Warsaw?

We have a 6 hr layover midday in Warsaw enroute from Budapest to Toronto.

I was thinking of lunch at the U Fukiera at the Old Town Market. Taxi in, lunch, a quick look around & taxi back to the airport.

Is this feasible? The airport looks close enough . . .

Sounds good, time trip in and schedule Old Town departure to allow for departure time. Airport taxis may be a problem. Take the Airporter or the Mariott shuttle bus to the Marriott and then their taxi to Old Town You can probably have the same taxi meet you for the return and take you to the hotel or the airport.

As for my experience "U fukiera" needs reservation, I'm afraid even for lunch time. You can try "BrowArmie"(they brew 4 sorts of beer). Besides I liked it much better, could't guess why "U Fukiera" was so popular.

Marriott's taxi is much more expensive then regular taxi - and prone to same exact traffic issues as all others since it does not fly ... just take a regular taxi from airport or from any other location (where you may need to look around for a taxi stand or call dispatch for pickup) - (check taxi price - posted on back window, before getting in - check more then one and pick lowest) - at airport taxi stand is right outside of arrivils (do not take any taxi offer rides from within terminal)... Arrange for pickup at specifc time from same driver at drop off location and you be more then fine ;-) - one way ride from airport to old city will probably cost you around 40zl ($15) some even except credit cards - but ask (and verify if any additional charges)

Thanks for the tips. I was thinking about pre-ordering a taxi to save time.

I'm not fixed on U Fukiera so BrowArmia might be an option.

Thanks

I have been to Fukier several times, including for lunch, and never with a reservation. There are other restaurants around the Old Town square, so if Fukier is fully booked, you can always find a second, or third, choice. You should definitely visit the Old Town, and you can walk from their along the Royal Road to the Bristol Hotel (its a 15-minute walk), and catch a taxi from the Bristol.

lan: good idea on pre-order - although at the airport there are always taxies standing around - also there are taxi booths within airport where you can order one... some also have online option - but i never tried that so i can't comment.

shop around - and when in doubt order one from mpt - http://www.mpt.pl/

from airport be no problem just make sure you have one picking you up for your way back at drop off location ;-)

Enjoy

We have to been to Warsaw three times in the last few years. I always hate when people tell me--ah, the best Maine lobster was the one I had in--St. Petersburg or Vienna or Nairobi--why doesnt one just order th dish in Maine--but I have to say one of the most enjoyable light pastas i have ever had--was the U Fukiera. We were eating late at night--with jetlag-and the waiter said I will have the chef make a light pasta with fresh tomatoes. I am still trying to duplicate the dish. I can hardly wait to go back this July. I know it sounds silly but I lvoe the Fikiera!!! Jan
