Lunch in Sardinia (Alghero)

While on a cruise in June, we will be spending a day in Sardinia and it happens to be my friend's 50th birthday. Any ideas on a great place to have a celebration lunch, preferably within walking distance of where the tenders dock.

Here's an excerpt from a trip report that I did in July, 2006:

Alghero is a picturesque, walled seaside town with a Spanish influence that has a nice, laid back atmosphere. We stayed at the Hotel Angedras, a small hotel located just outside of the historic town center. We enjoyed staying in a quiet location and walking to the center along the “lungomare” (a promenade along the historic sea wall). While in Alghero, we had dinner at “La Muraglia” (one of the restaurants along the sea wall) - good food, a great view of the seaside, and an excellent wine, Cagnulari, from Santa Maria La Palma, a local Alghero winery. We also ate at La Pavone – also good but pricey (the Catalan lobster salad was delicious but overpriced at 60 euro per person).

Here's a link to the whole report if you care to read it - we loved Sardinia!

Al Tuguri - Via Maiorca - is an excellent restaurant.
Also the restaurant of Hotel Villa Las Tronas - Lungomare Valencia - if you want to splurge.

Two suggestions for your friend's 50th birthday in Alghero.
An agritourism whose restaurant is very good "SA MANDRA", far from the town so that you should need a car. Website: www.aziendasamandra.it .
Otherwise the best, IMHO, restaurant in Alghero, perfect for your friend's 50th birthday is ANDREINI www.ristoranteandreini.it.
It is June, I know, anyway do not miss "andarinos al ragù di maialetto".

Hi,
Not sure which is more important to your 50 year old friend, but if food outranks ambiance, definitely go to the restaurant called Casa Blanca, which is just a block or so off the main promenade. It's not fancy, a little bit rustic (which doesn't translate to shabby), but the food is fantastic. If you enjoy fresh seafood, you will lick your fingers clean. Grilled or in a "zuppa" sauce (not really soup)it is great.
