Lunch in London

I'm going to London for the day on 12th January for some serious shopping (thank you Ryanair). Can anyone suggest somewhere nice for a fortifying lunch in the Knightsbridge area? Has anyone eaten in any of the restaurants in Harrods or Harvey Nichols, or could they name somewhere else where I can rest my feet and relax, as a break from waving my credit card around? Thanks.

For the true Ab Fab experience it has to be the fifth floor restaurant in Harvey Nicks. Say hi to Patsy and Edina from me

Harrods has, I believe, scores of restaurants. We have had lunch in what I believe is called the Terrace room. It's next to another restaurant that has a piano bar. It overlooks an interesting view of London rooftops. I've forgotten what floor it's on, but remember that we have had some good lunches there.

Here is a web link to the above Harrod's restaurant:

http://www.harrods.com/restaurants/terrace.html

I've been to both and would vote for Harrods. Harvey Nichols just doesn't compare. It's very cafeteria like. Although in summer the outdoor part is nice. Harrods has scores of places to eat in the food court but pick one of the nicer places (like the one Adam sent the link for).

I was just at Harrod's in November and we had lunch at the Tapas Bar which is on the lower level next to the wine store. We had an excellent lunch ... and since it was tapas style, we were able to try a bunch of interesting things.

(In case you're not familiar with tapas style restaurants, it means all of the food is served in small portions, so instead of ordering just one entree, you order several small plates.)

Just a reminder that Harrod's BIG sale time is January and the store is packed likewise the restaurants. I'd go for relaxation OUTSIDE the store if it were me.

I just looked at the website for Harrods restaurants. They sound wonderful. Are any of them moderate in price? or are they all terribly expensive?

Topping for Marilyn. I'm also interested in Harrod's restaurants. Are they too very expensive?

We ate in the small cafe in Harrods that was like a cafeteria. It was way too expensive~I prefer the many small charming restaurants in the neighborhood,Beauchamp Place is nearby and is a street full of good restaurants, great boutiques, galleries, and always a photographer or two lying in wait for shopping celebrities. We saw Jerry Hall and Princess Diana on two seperate occasions:)

Thanks, Michelle. We'll try to find something on Beauchamp Place then.
