lunch in athens

We are spending a day in Athens---besides the Parthenon, are there good markets nearby and a good restaurant for lunch?

Below the Parthenon at the foot of the Acropolis is the Plaka, the oldest section of Athens. There are many restaurants and food shops there.

Ooo, and get the big meat/rice stuffed tomatoes. They are yummy and a perfect lunch! My husband and I split a plate along with a greek salad and it was perfect.

Taverana Psara is your goal. It is nothing short of authentic, moderately-priced, good service, and wonderful views looking on the city below.

Frommer's Review
One of the few remaining places in the touristy Plaka that remains a cut above its tourist-trap neighbors, this spot is tucked away in a quiet corner under blooming mulberry trees. This might just be the only seafood option in Plaka seriously worth considering. The marinated octopus is truly out of this world.

Damigo’s Tavern is typical Greek tavern located in Plaka.
Family owned you will find in the back room big wine barrels, taste the tasteful skoradia, delicious deep-fried codfish.
