Lunch in Athens.
 

Would appreciate recommendations for interesting places to have lunch in Athens. Traveling with a group of students, and free time is mostly mid-day. Thanks in advance.

They might enjoy the view of the city from the top of Lycabettus Hill. There's a cafe up there and a funicular for the ride that leaves from the Kolonaki District below.

Thanassis in Plaka for the best souvlaki known to man. Budget friendly for students!!

Can never have another on here in the US ever again.

Loads of street atmosphere. The neighborhood is "real", slightly gritty, but fun!!! Go!!!!!

topping for myself....

I liked a bakery called Ariston...they have take-out cheese pies that you can have for a meal.....our resident Greece expert, Brotherleelove can tell you the name of those pies......they are very tasty and very filling. I am sure you can get them in many spots in Athens........

Cheese Pie = Tiropita
Spinach/Cheese Pie = Spanikopita

They're as common as gyros, you can find them everywhere. YUMMY!!!:)

Directed pedantically at brotherleelove:

Spinach pie: Spanakopita
Spinach/Cheese pie: Spanakotiropita

They consist of exactly the same ingredients except the latter has feta and eggs, whereas the former does not (traditionally, anyway).

(The Greeks are always screwing this up and calling them both spanakopites. The Everest lady will probably not bother to correct you unless they have both.)

Another one to try: Bougatsa me zahari ahni (hold the cinnamon - personal preference).
