Lunch in Amsterdam?

Hi everyone-
Have a 4 hour layover in Amsterdam. Any suggestions for lunch in the city? Or perhaps we won't have time? We've never been there and are open to suggestions!
Thanks-

The train to Amsterdam takes 20 minutes. As you come out of the Central Station straight ahead are the docks the canal boats depart every half hour. The boat tour is nice and you get to see the highlights of the city, it last about half hour-40 minutes. I don't think you have time for anything else.

Check with the airlines before you leave the airport. You want to make sure of your check-in time for the next flight. Amsterdam is nice, but don't miss your flight.
ditto for JohnL's comment. How much time do you really have? Are you going to be jet lagged? Are you going to be hungry? What time is it back where you started your flight?
Whatever you do, allow a half hour each way t/f the city. A 4 hour layover is short.
If you are a gambler there is a casino in the airport. And Schiphol has one of the best duty free shops anywhere. If you still have time call or write for a catalog to compare prices before you go. Schiphol has little chocolate shops selling pieces with some beautiful fillings, and the bars have fresh Heineken on tap. As far as airports go this is probably the best for a short layover.

Hi JD. No specific suggestions for you, but you'll have time to see a little bit. My girlfriend & I have had 3-4 hour layovers in Amsterdam on our last three trips to Europe, and we've always taken the train into the city for a couple hours. We usually just walk down the main street, Damrak, and then over to the Leidesplein area for a bite to eat (we found a great little Lebanese place, but I forget the name.) The train into Amsterdam is quick, and very easy (you catch it right at the airport); just make sure you allow plenty of time to get back for your next flight. Have fun!
