Vicenzo: Ciao! We will be taking this drive from SML to Lake Como on a Friday so I am hoping to have lunch at Il Fiorile....

Maybe you can meet us there (!!)

Ciao Vicenzo!

I have printed out the directions from SML to Il Fiorile and I have now just noticed that the Michelin website says that they are CHIUSO for lunch during the week! (We will be driving on Friday). Do you know if this is the case?

Il Fiorile website confirms that they are not open for lunch. I am afraid the wine bar idea is out due to the driving we have to do after lunch.

Do you have any other ideas??

Here is the latest idea:

Julie: The Vecchia Mulino in Certosa sounds lovely, but I think it will be too upscale for our purposes...I think we are looking more for a trattoria with local food and not too many frills...

Hi EK..

spootted your post...looking at my handy-dandy Euro Atlas (I have one for several western European countries), I see that Garbagna and Borghetto di Borbera are literally, "just off" the A-7 which connects Milano with Genoa. The Vignole-Borbera Exit is very close to both these towns and consequently, The Il Fiorile.

If that doesn't work out, there's a brand new Denny's closeby...enjoy!

I've driven the A-7 which is a very good, non-trafficky autostrada. You will just want to avoid Central Milano at all costs. Via Michelin will direct you on this matter, as there are circumferential routes that give wide berth to Milano, and out you on the road to Como... (it's a bit tricky).

stu (gourmet food in Russia??)
