Lunch at better restaurants in Paris. What are the hours?

I just tried to make reservations at L'Arpage. They would not answer my question on which hours lunch was served but gave me the latest time slot open on the day I requested, 1:30PM. This will probably be my one special meal out, would have preferred a 2PM time.

They seemed to have wide open availabilty for dinner so I did not think that 1:30PM was about availability.

Is this a standard for better restaurants in Paris? Just wondering if other restaurants don't book after 1:30PM for lunch.

I don't know if it's a standard or not, but many people take 2-hour or longer lunches in the finer restaurants of Paris, which means that the restaurant can't clean up after them and get the place ready for dinner until 4 pm or later, which isn't much time. So it makes sense.

Hi Sarah,

Traditionally, restaurants are open 12 - 2 and then about 7 - 11.

Thanks Ira, Have you been to L'Arpage or not so fine L Entrecote?

Thanks Cirq, think I will still have doddle time at 1:30pm?

Sarah:

I think you'd have more if you booked at 12:30, but they're unlikely to kick you out.

I just won't be hungry at 12:30pm for rich food.

Just don't order rich food! It's perfectly possibly to have a lighter meal--you don't have to opt for the heavier courses.

Not looking to stay in any food boundaries here underhill. I have to have something with some kind of sauce here. I am a pretty light eater in general but I just can't handle much before the afternoon.

Thanks for the tip though! No doubt this will be on my mind most of the trip.

Hi Sarah,

They offered you a 1:30 booking. They won't throw you out at 2:00.

Enjoy your lunch.
