Lunch and dinner recs in Reims?
We are off to Reims for the first time next weekend.. ( just a long weekend) have Veuve Cliquot, Mumm and Moët champagne houses booked and plan to visit the cathedral in Reims too ( and would welcome any other " sightseeing" suggestions)
Anyway, the point of the post is does anyone have any restaurant recommendations for lunch or dinner in Reims.. Not looking for high end, just a nice local " French" restaurant/Brasserie would be great. Thank you :) |
We had lunch here several times during a week in Reims and enjoyed every meal every time.
The food is quite wonderful, has an array of French specialities and isn't expensive. Lunch times get full quite quickly so go early or reserve. Easy to find. Cafe du Palais, 14 Place Myron Herrick. http://www.cafedupalais.fr/ |
The main things I liked in Reims were the cathedral and the museum in the place that was Eisenhower's headquarters during WWII where the Germans surrendered. IT was fascinating, but I love history.

Our favorite place was a tiny seafood restaurant upstairs of the fish market called Le Bocal. And aside from the cathedral and a champagne house, we went to several small museums and took a half day tour of the countryside (all in my report).

That's unfortunate Smeagol as it really is a nice place. We reserved just once when we knew we'd be cutting it tight getting back from Epernay, but showed up early the other two times and enjoyed an aperitif just outside the entrance before eating.
I'll see if I can dig up another restaurant we late at (I can recommend high end but you didn't want that). However, here's another treat that you must visit. It's a bakery that uses an enormous wood burning oven to bake everything except the patisserie and uses organic flour. The products sold cover a wide range and are not only beautiful to look at, but are really delicious, especially all the different breads (some of which are cut to order by weight). I know the baker/owner and have spent time in his atelier. We bought all we needed for a picnic lunch on the TGV back to Paris from him, and paired with a 1/2 red, ate like royalty. Patty, just to let you know we went to Halls Place last night and loved it. Shame Le Bocal is closed tonight or we would have gone there...... Looked like some really nice restaurants in that area. Thanks for the tip.
