Luggage storage Florence Train Station

How effecient and expensive is it to store luggage at the Santa Maria Novella train station in Florence? Our group of 8 is considering a 6-8 hour stopover in Florence on our way from Venice to Rome. I'm hoping it does not take too much time to process paperwork for luggage storage at the train station. Is there any other option other than storing luggage at train station?

Hi M,

The left luggage office is to your right as you face the trains.

How long it will take to drop/get your bags depends on the size of the crowds.

When are you going?

Hi mary, just be sure to check the hours of operation, you don't want to come back to retrive your luggage to find out the luggage office is closed.

We are travelling through Florence on June 8, 2007. We plan to take the 6:30am train from Venice- arriving in Florence at 9:30am. We plan to leave on an evening train to Rome on the same day.

We were there in late November. It was 3.80 per bag for 5 hours and then a lower hourly rate after that. Sorry, I can't remember. We arrived too early to check in at our apartment and picked up the bags just under 5 hours.

Hi uptowngirl,

Thanks for your reply!
How long did you wait in line to check/pick-up bags? I am worried that in June the baggage check may be very busy and we may stand in line for hours. How efficient was the process at the left luggage office? Is a copy of your passport required to check luggage?
