Luggage Storage at Heathrow
 

Hi! We have a 48-hour stopover in London enroute to India. Is there a place we can store our luggage at Heathrow airport, rather than drag it along in the tube? If not, does anyone know of a company we could use to hire a car that could handle luggage for 3 people - likely 4 suitcases?

There is luggage storage at Heahrow. In terminal 4 it is at opposite end from Heathrow Express.

But at £6 per item per day (or part thereof), storing it will cost you at least £48, and possibly £72. Which is more than justairports will probably charge you for a car into town and out again.

I agree w/ flanner - a car service will not charge you extra for a normal amount of luggage.

And bear in mind there can be quite a queue at left luggage at LHR to drop off AND to pick up your bags. So you have to build in extra time at the airport the day you leave - just in case it takes you 30 mins or more just to get your luggage out.

Thank you for the additional info. I think the car might be the best option after all. How does one book the car, and is there a flat rate for the trip to the hotel? We will be arriving at 0800 and traffic to central London will likely be horrendous.

THe two car companies that seem to get recommended here most often are justairports and Ray Skinner. A quick search or google should throw up their web pages from which you can book - though some kind soul will probably remember their URLs

Define "horrendous". By the standards of Bombay or Tokyo, getting a car into the centre from Heathrow is a doddle, even at 8 am (something that can't be said for Gatwick). Most of us, after all, don't drive into London most of the time. At 0930 (the earliest you're likely to be leaving the airport if your flight arives at 8), you're beginning to look at 45 minutes to most West End destinations. Say an hour - but Mrs F can just about manage it in half the time.

If you book/ w/ justairports you will get a pretty nice discount if you pay cash instead of using a credit card.

Flanner, you made me laugh. Living in Ottawa, Canada, a trip to downtown for me is 20 minutes, but if I drive in rush hour, I might add 10 minutes more! So my "horrendous" traffic doesn't compare to most of the world's! (my husband and your wife should apparently get together to compare notes on who is faster). Thanks for the info; I'll look on line and see what I can find.
