Anna We have flown out of Philly on USAir nonstop to Paris and our luggage and many others were bumped by luggage that had not made it on a PREVIOUS plane so a direct flight out of Philly does not guarantee the arrival of your luggage---just a word of warning. Also if you check how full your plane is just days before departure may give you a good idea how strict the crew will be about carryon allowances. It also helps if you are flying business or first class, they don't have to live by the same restrictions as those of us in economy ;;). Have a great time on your trip. For me and cruising my downfall is shoes, I brought 14 pair on one cruise and wore every single pair ;;) Deborah

Thanks for the suggestions. I've decided to go with 2 check-in bags (his/mine clothing in each) just in case one gets lost or arrives late, 1 carry-on garment bag (evening clothes) and 1 small carry-on for essentials and shoes. DH's shoes would occupy most of the space in the luggages. I think this should do it.

I've been on many cruises, although in the Caribbean and have never had this problem. Then again, it's not the same packing shorts/tank tops as it is packing slacks/sweaters, which are bulkier - since I am traveling in November.

Thank you all for your help. My trip is looking brighter. And I appreciate your well wishes, since I will be celebrating my 30th. wedding anniversary.
