Luggage sent by train from Interlaken
How reliable is it to send luggage by train whilst we spend the day doing a scenic train route and stopping to see villages on the way? Would put it on at Interlaken. Can we send it to Como as final destination? How long does it take? What does it cost?
Luggage: Anyone know if we can send it (1 sm/med case on wheels each) from Interlaken to Como and collect it next day?... How long does it take and what does it cost? Is it safe to leave overnight at Como station if necessary? |
Why 3 posts for same question?

Well I've never done it myself, but it is the Swiss you're talking about here... so my guess is they can handle it. I saw advertisements in all the train stations last summer for this service.

3 posts were actually 2 I think(other time was included in first, too long query which I should've broken up, so broke it up for a better chance of response!).. this is the first time i've used the forum and made a mistake posting the msg twice and can't work out how to delete one! But all this aside, do you have an answer that might help?!

The service you want doesn't seem to exist.
SBB accepts luggage up to 1900 on the day you travel, and guarantees to have it available at any other domestic station by 0900 the day after next. Como isn't in Switzerland, and therefore I don't believe is covered by the service, though I seem to remember seeing some SBB staff there. Chiasso is the nearest Swiss station. There's actually a pleasant walk into Como by sideroads, but you really wouldn't want to do it with luggage. It's possible that SBB routinely overperform, and even that they have a baggage pickup office at Como (though I've never seen it). Unless someone comes onto this board and swears they've actually done this, assume it's not possible for planning purposes, but double-check at Interlaken just in case. It's decades since I last used the left luggage at Como. Used to be fine, but wouldn't bank on it these days. |
tig,
Here's the reply I gave you on 3/10: Message: Hi again, Well, here's a link to the luggage service at the Swiss Rail website, http://mct.sbb.ch/mct/en/reisemarkt/...ck-schweiz.htm And here's a link to the Swiss Rail phone numbers (to augment the number you got at europeforvisitors) http://mct.sbb.ch/mct/en/reisezeit/r...it_kontakt.htm s |
