luggage on planes
I'd like to bring my luggage on the plane with me. Its a 22 inch. I've packed it to full capacity. I'm also bringing a carry on will I be allowed to bring this on American Airlines. I'm especially worried about my 22inch. It seems large.

Twenty two inches is twenty two inches my dear, it is large compared to one inch, and small compared to a furlong.
If you're travelling First or Business you may get away with two cabin pieces, but usually you are only allowed just the one. |
I thought I might be able to add somethhing to MK-2s usual extremely helpful advice.
According to the AA website "The free baggage allowance varies by international destination. Please contact an American Airlines representative at 1-800-433-7300 for specifics." Not really that more helpful than the previous post but at least, my dear, you have a tel number to call. I have assumed that you are flying internationally because you are posting on the Europe forum |
On Air Canada, I had a 22" suitcase of specified width and breadth, plus a personal item (medium-size purse-like bag) as allowed by that airline's rules.
More important might be - can you easily lift that 22" suitcase over your head and carry it up and down 3 flights of stairs or so? But do check AA's rules on their web site. My knowledge is limited, but last I heard BA would never allow that in coach, so you'd want to make sure none of your flights are actually AA codeshares with an actual BA flight. |
I took my 24" on Air France last year, this year I checked it. As suggested, look at the dimensions requirements for the airline to be sure. And about lifting it over your head- another factor to consider. Also, international flights are a little more lenient about the number of carry-on bags. I was able to take a bag with my purchases, my handbag and a small personal bag for flight items like music etc. in addition to my suitcase. As to size, 22" is relatively small, (especially the inside packing area- your skill is comendable!). Those who do not pack light, wish to leave room for purchases or have extended trips often take 26" for example. Hope this helps...

Oops - I should say international flights coming home, leaving from the States, I've been required to consolidate to 2 carry-onbags including handbag, so if I didn't check my suitcase, my purse has to go in my little travel bag with my flight comfort stuff.
