luggage concerns
Hi,
Has anyone out there take a tour to Italy using Trafalgar tour company, had a stopover in Germany, using Luftansa? I am getting mixed messages on the size and weight of my luggage to be checked in. In lbs., some say 50lbs, and a 30x18x10 size piece will work, and others are saying 40lbs and this size. I would appreciate any thoughts from someone who actually may have experienced this. |
That's a very large and heavy suitcase. Do you have a specific reason for needing so much with you? Getting a 30" suitcase weighing 50 lbs. on & off a baggage carousel at the airport would be more than I could comfortably manage.
I don't travel particularly light, but use a 24" rolling suitcase that weighs about 25-35 lbs. packed. |
From Lufthansa website
http://www.lufthansa.com/online/port...nodeid=1769603 Allowance for long haul routes (US to Europe) are higher than shorter (intra Europe). Higher allowance also for business and first class, as well as premium level FF status. |
How much luggage you can checked-in on your LH flight is determined by LH, not Trafalgar. Here is the info:
http://www.lufthansa.com/online/port...nodeid=1769603 You can check two pieces of 23kg (which is 50lb) each if you're flying coach. There's no size limit. Trafalgar's luggage policy is the one you have: http://www.trafalgartours.com/USA/FA...y_Tour_Departs If you compare the two, you'll note that Trafalgar's policy is the limiting factor here. Your checked piece of 30x18x10 (50lb) is fine with Lufthansa. In fact, you can take another 50lb suitcase on your flights - you just can't take it on your bus tour. |
rk,
It depends what is meant by a stopover. If catiecat is flying from US to Italy, with a connection in Germany then the long haul allowance applies. If it is a true stop over (leave airport, then return again to check in for flight to Italy) then intra-Europe allowance applies. |
Yes, J62. Good point. If they have a true stopover, then they can only check 20kg of bags between Germany and Italy.
So, they can only put 20kg (44lb) in that 30x18x10 suitcase. ;) |
