Luggage at Victoria Station London

My wife and I will arrive at Victoria station London about 9:00am but we can't check in to our hotel until 2:00pm. My question is, can we leave our luggage at the station and sightsee for a few hours then go to the hotel, or do we have to drop off the bags at the hotel (South Kennsington) then head back in town? There is a "left luggage" counter at Victoria station but I am not sure what this means. Thanks for any help .

There is a left luggage office at the station, run by a private company. They charge about £4 per item per day. See www.excess-baggage.com.

I think it would also be well worth contacting the hotel as they will usually store luggage for guests arriving early - if rooms are available they will probably let you check in as well!

Thanks a lot for the help. I guess I just need to decide which works best for me. While I'm here, How about good places to eat/pubs in the Kennsington/Chelsea are?

As already mentioned there is "left luggage" at Victoria. But your comment about "then head back in town" indicates you think S. Kensington is an outlying neighborhood. It is really just as convenient to many tourist attractions as Victoria.

To save having to go back to Victoria to retrieve your bags and then go to the hotel, I'd just go straight to the hotel and leave my luggage there. It would save you money and hassle and there is an outside chance your room would be ready.
