Luggage at Heathrow

I'm flying from Istanbul to London on AA, operated by British Airways. We land at Heathrow, then fly out of Gatwick on AA to Dallas. I've received conflicting information about luggage--will our luggage be checked through from Istanbul to Dallas, or do we have to pick it up at Heathrow and transport it to Gatwick? Thanks for any information!

Schlep your own bags. Positively.

No - luggage is not transfered for you. You must collect it, take it to LGW and re-check it.

Also - leaving a UK airport one is only allowed one item through security. Not a carry on plus a "personal item" - one item.

And don't forget about the 100ml liquid & gel rules

There was a time when it could be checked through, this is probably why you are getting conflicting info. But those days are long gone.

In addition to the other good advice above, be sure to get a landing card when they pass them out on your flight to London. You will need it when going through passport control.
