luggage

I know it depends on the airline and all but generally speaking ,in addition to a carryon piece of luggage will the shoulder totes that usually match the luggage be allowed also? Thanks

Hi Ruff,

Is your shoulder tote about the size of a lady's purse? If so, yes.

You are usually allowed one carry on plus one "personal" item, such as a purse or briefcase.
As ira said, it will depend on the size.
Also note that even carry-ons are often subject to rather-low weight restrictions on overseas flights.

Rufff,

The above is correct. One carry-on, plus one personal item. I have brought a 22" suitcase, and the matching tote, and have been fine. Please note, however, that I put my purse inside the tote, because you can only have 1 personal item.

another thing to check is to see if your airline has changed its carryon size limits.

Aer Lingus 2 yrs ago had the 22" limit, but in the last year or so, went down to a 18" limit.

Also - double check if it is a specific limit ( ie. AL was 18x14x9) versus an overall inches ( ie. 45" total dimension)

I'm sorry to report that despite airline "rules" about carry-ons our recent trip to Europe re-emphasized that the enforcement of these rules is lax...we saw many many folks with HUGE carry-ons and the airline personnel (Lufthansa) didn't bat an eyelash.
