Lugano for a day trip

Hello,
I will be staying at Bellagio and would like to go to Lugano for a day to explore. What can I see in a day?

Lugano a fine city on a fine lake but ho-hum to me - you cna take boat rides on Lake Lugano that are nice or postal buses up into the cow areas. Really expensive!

Explore the beautiful old town - Via Nassa, Piazza della Riforma. The cathedral uphill is a must, the small funicular to get there is fun. Don't miss Sta. Maria degli Angeli with the stunning fresco.

I second Monte Bre/funicular. To get there walk through the parco civico and see Villa Ciani.

A stroll south along the lake promenade to Lugano-Paradiso is not bad either. And if there's enough time you might go up to Monte San Salvatore also (another funicular).

For the boat ride on Lake Lugano choose the boat to Gandria - the other direction (to Morcote, which is very beautiful) takes too long IMO.

I.

Thank you, great information. Leaving tommorow. Unfortunately it shows rains/showers for a couple of days that we are spending in Bellagio. Yak!
