Lugano -- Bre or San Salvatore? Kayak rentals.

Will be staying in Lugano for a few nights and would love to rent a kayak for a few hours one day. My search results haven't turned up much. Does anyone know if there are any kayak rental companies in the area?

Also, if you had the choice to climb either Monte Bre or Monte San Salvatore, which one would you choose for the best panoramic views?

Lastly, any suggestions for anything else to do? We plan to see Morcote and Via Nassa, but that's about it. Nothing else specifically planned yet. Just for your reference, we do have a car and not completely reliant on public transit.

Thanks,
Sean

Don't know about kayak rental, but you could send Lugano Tourism an email and ask.

I personally prefer Monte Bre for the views - Monte Bre is particularly impressive from there. But for more panoramic views of the Alps go up to San Salvatore. Also, from the latter you can easily hike via Carona (beautiful village with botanical garden) to Morcote and take the boat back to Lugano.

Other ideas: Walk to Gandria, boat back or vice versa. The old town of Lugano is not just Via Nassa - see the cathedral as well e.g. and some other churches, parco civico is a beautiful garden, a stroll along the lake is recommended. Did you know writer Hermann Hesse lived and died in nearby Montagnola? www.hessemontagnola.ch

A drive in the Malcantone area (west of Lugano at the foot of Mt. Lema) is also rewarding. Large chestnut forests, picturesque villages, chair lift up to Mt. Lema. You can continue to Rivera (north) from where a cable car takes you up to Mt. Tamaro with modern chapel by Mario Botta (views!) Or drive up to Indemini, a small and picturesque village with view of Lake Maggiore.

Mt. San Giorgio (south of Lake Lugano) is UNESCO world heritage. Or take the cog-train up to Mt. Generoso for best panoramic views. What about wine tasting in/near Mendrisio?

"What about wine tasting in/near Mendrisio?"

Is that before or after Foxtown ;-) (which was, as far as I knew, the only reason for going to Mendrisio...)

A wine-tasting isn't a bad idea, but you can also sample a good variety of the better local wines at the popular Bottegone del Vino wine bar near the Quartiere Maghetti in Lugano itself. Our default lunch stop for trips to the city. Has a very loyal local clientele so at lunchtime, tables fill up very quickly. We usually arrive at 11:55 and by 12:15 there isn't a table left inside or out.

Monte Bre and San Salvatore have different but equally attractive views, IMO.

I do see kayakers down past the city park, near the public beach, but don't know if they're rentals.
You might get some help here:

It includes two phone numbers and an email contact
