I flew Lufthansa a couple of times and I find its service and reliability to be better than other airlines (like Alitalia, often on strikes and with a customer service lacking kindness). I used once Lufthansa to fly from Rome to Los Angeles through Frankfurt and I can't say anything wrong regarding the service.

If you get negative info, will you cancel and rebook at aditional expense?
I doubt it.
During your vacation some things are bound to be less than perfect. My advice is to relax, "blow it off" and have a great vacation.
As long as the plane lands safely in Rome, the rest is trivial

I flew them over 2 years ago from SFO to CDG and return. We changed planes in Frankfurt (going) and Munich (returning).
Surprisingly I liked 4 flights alot even though we were in cattle class. However, the flight attendants were great and the aircrafts were new and clean! Even better the food was edible.

Thanks for all the information. I appreciate all the input.Batuffolina, you have been very helpful on numerous occasions, thank you thank you for all your expertise. I was a bit concerned regarding safety due to their recent financial troubles. So yes, 'Dick', I Would cancel and re-schedule if safety became an issue. And why am I "seeking negaive information"? Well, ''Hee_hee-hee', that is the beauty of the forum, I get to ask whatever I wish; and no one has to respond to my silly questions if they dont wish.

I've flown Lufthansa a number of times, both on the short hops in Europe and also across the pond. They seem to be very professional, I'd say.
A year or so ago, I was on a short hop from FRA to ZRH and we had a possibility of a problem w/landing gear. We were more than halfway to ZRH but went back to FRA to land, rather than on to ZRH. I suppose this is because Lufthansa wanted to service its plane on its home turf rather than in Switzerland. Anyway, the flight landed back in FRA just fine, no problems, and they put us on the very next flight to ZRH, which happened to be almost right away. I got upgraded to 1st class on that flight (I do a lot of miles on United and Star Alliance airlines) and was only a little more than an hour late for dinner in ZRH. So it turned out just fine.

I forgot to note that before I flew on Lufthansa I read all the negative comments here and was really prepared for the worse.
However, as I stated before, my flights turned out to be quite the opposite of what I had expected. And in my opinion, the service was excellent which I cannot say for both British Airways & Air France-at least the times I flew on these two airlines a few years ago last.

We think Lufthansa is a great airline..no problems at all with two trips to Italy. Of course we go through Frankfurt, but no trouble there either. Just got back from trip to Milan and the Lake District..traveling in coach, food was good, plus unlimited wine and other drinks. Lufthansa leaves on time and arrives on time; no trouble with luggage. We just flew Lufthansa from LA to Rome via Frankfurt and back via Munich. It was great. We had no complaints at all. Airport security at Munich was a little odd . . . the Munich massage . . . but that is not the fault of Lufthansa.
Staff were very pleasant and as mentioned above, the food was edible.
We had heard horror stories about the Frankfurt airport and were pleasantly surprised. It was clean and well marked with a very efficient shuttle.

You must have Lufthansa confused with another airline.
They have no financial problems or safety concerns. Lufthansa is perhaps the most financially stable of all airlines with a very new fleet of aircraft and an excelent safety record.
Perhaps you were thinking of Alitalia.
I fly regularly with Lufthansa and find a consistent good level of service.

Molker-that's simply not true- and you may not have been attuned to it, but I can assure you I have been. It is not lately, however, but within the past 5 years. They have had both bitter and protracted labor disputes involving their pilots' union-some of the most bitter in the industry, as a matter of fact. Declining profits contributed to these protracted disputes. The service on Lufthansa is not what it used to be 10 years ago, but all the state-owned European carriers have had to do considerable reorganizing in order to keep up with deregulation, and the host of new, upstart carriers that are undercutting profits on popular routes. That said, however, many travelers make the mistake of thinking that safety then becomes an issue when carriers go through financial difficulties and labor disputes -but that is precisely why there are strict regulatory controls in place to step up surveillance of air carriers in this situation- and that is true of course both in the US and for the most part, in Europe as well.

British Airways is a national disgrace. I am embarrassed by the airline. When I go home to London, I fly Virgin.
I have flown Lufthansa in the past, and can say that their flight attendants are the epitome of German efficiency.

Just returned home from trip to Italy. Flew Lufthsana from Munich to Rome, then from Rome to Frankfort. Both flights were just great. Nice planes and very friendly flight crew. Wished the entire trip was on Lufthsana.

If you review the comments here, I believe you will see how people feel about Lufthnsa.
All airlines have had to adjust to the changing world and Lufthansa has done much better than most.
I m a Lufthansa Senator( fly more than 100,000 miles) and know the level of service.
I know of few airlines that have not had labor problems as they work to lower costs. If my memory is correct , the last labor stoppage was several years ago.I do not know how that pertains to the level of service or safety of today.
Look at the Balance Sheets of European Airlines and you will see the strength of Lufthansa compared to others.
I only need to mention Sabena, KLM and Alitalia.

Really I have to say again that I felt Lufthansa's flight attendants were the most thoughtful, attentive, and friendliest of all transatlantic airlines I've flown to Europe combined within the past decade. That not only includes AF & BA but also UAL.
However, for me, UAL is right next to Lufthansa; AF & BA are at the bottom.
