Lufthansa Luggage ? How strict are they?
Their carry-on measurements are 22X21X6, how strict are they. Can it be a little deeper? Thanks
|
Carryon must not exceed total of 45 inches when height, width & depth added.
|
when we were traveling on Lufthansa the limit was 2 carryons per person. We had 4 bags between us and they said since we were a couple we had to check one of our carry-ons since couples could only have 3. The gate people were rude and totally unreasonable. It was a close to gate rage as I have ever been. I have never flown the airline from hell again.

I flew them two weeks ago. Lufthansa does not fool around. They are courteous, professional, and very serious. I watched a very polite desk clerk call security on a man who insisted on not checking in a piece of luggage, true, her calm only enflamed him more, but they don't mess around. If your final destination is in Germany, fine, but if you are travelling on, be prepared for German airport security and screeners. I got checked FOUR times before flying back to the US.

Any more comments on carry on. Can we take those small wheeled suitcases about 15 inches tall? Any one do it recently?
|
Don't understand? Flew on Lufthansa many times, never a problem.
|
Dudette,
They're GERMAN! Like goose-stepping, Nazi party, enforcement-oriented GERMAN! Does this give you a remote notion of how strict they are?
|
Don't get your lederhosen in an uproar!

How about some serious answers?

We flew Lufthansa last year, and they were great. I did see them measuring carry-ons with a measuring tape at the check-in counter, so make sure you follow the rules.

Even if your luggage meets the measurement requirements on Lufthansa if it is one ounce over the weight requirements you must check it. They made us check our bags at the gate, assuring us they would be on the flight. Guess what? No bags at our destination. It caused us to miss a connecting flight waiting for them. We didn't get to our destination till nearly midnight and had no luggage that night. Next morning we went back to the airport to pick them up (didn't trust Lufthansa to find the B&B we were staying at and deliver them). So much for German efficency.

What is the weight limit for carry on?
|
just got back last friday on lufthansa and i can assure you that they are serious about their carry-on requirements, at least on flights originating in the us. four of us had to check bags that united had allowed us to carryon when we switched to lufthansa in chicago, but everyone was very polite and reassuring about it, albeit quite efficient. one bag did not show up at our destination, but it was delivered to the hotel the next morning. based on my experience, i would not count on carrying on any bag greater than 20" tall -- didn't see any getting through, but 15-16" sounds just right.

We flew Lufthansa well before 9/11. Although I am not sure of the exact measurements of our carry on, we assumed (stupid on our part) that it would be acceptable. Because of the wheels, it did not fit inside the "display box" used to gauge the acceptable size of carry ons--it had to be checked, end of story.

I just flew Lufthansa a few weeks ago. They are VERY strict with zero tollerance!
|
We fly Lufthansa a lot within Europe and they always make my husband check his rolley carry-on. I'm not sure of the measurements, but it was always acceptable in the US as a carry-on. We have noticed that people flying in business class manage to take the same bag as carry-on.
|
Jeri, the last time that I flew Lufthansa (pre-9/11), my bag fit in the measurement bin and was the exact size as my mom's (smaller than the measurements that you give). She got to take her bag on and mine had to be checked at the gate. Not sure what problem was, but it didn't really bother me.
|
Jeri,

Lufthansa are very strict about losing lugguage - I fly with them frequently from international airports to regional airports in Germany and never once has my bag arrived with me - I don't have a choice as they are the only airline to my final destination. So be warned bring essentials with you in a small carryon,

Cathy
