Had to go to the airport today to pick up a package. While I was there I stopped by the Continental/Lufthansa counter to inquire about fares from Boston to Berlin in September. Planned on staying for a month. Ticket agent came back with a price of $189 plus taxes -- $279.85 departing on September 12th and returning October 13th. Went directly to the ATM to get cash and paid for the ticket since it seemed like a bargain. Two hours later got a call from the Continental agent saying that Continental/Lufthansa had a computer glitch for about an hour today and that the ticket I bought should have actually been $1272 including the tax, but that Continental/Lufthansa would HONOR the ticket since it was paid for. Should I keep the ticket or should I return it and pay the correct fare? Also, if I return the ticket will I be penalized $150? I want to do what is ethical and forthright.

Well, if you have to stop and think about whether to be ethical or not, what's the point of doing it all.

I wouldn't call it unethical to keep the fair cheaper fair. Was it your<BR>fault there was a computer error? Keep the ticket

If it would ease your conscience I will take that ticket off your hands and you can go buy another at the higher fare!

Yikes, next time be more careful when you're making up "facts." Continental and Lufthansa are not partners.

Lufthansa and Continental do code share, so they are considered "partners". Keep the ticket and have a great vacation.

XXX, are you sure they codeshare? That's not what Continental told me the other week when I was checking on fares to Germany. Lufthansa is part of the Star Alliance, so it codeshares with United. Continental's web site says it shares with Air France, KLM, and Virgin, among others, but not Lufthansa.

On which routes do Continental and Lufthansa codeshare? I was under the impression that Continental have a cosy relationship with KLM, Northwest, and Virgin Atlantic--none of which are Star Alliance members. Lufthansa, in the Star Alliance, codeshare with United, SAS, Air Canada, bmi, and about a dozen other airlines--but not NW/KLM or CO.

I just did a search online at Orbitz, and the information comes up flying Boston to Newark, Newark to Berlin on Continental and Lufthansa. Where it shows Lufthansa it says "partner airline". So, I've got to believe this is true that Continental and Lufthansa do have a partnership on certain routes. Also showed the same info flying to other destinations in Germany but the first leg of the flight is Boston to London on Continental and switching to Lufthansa. This fare is very good, but it might be just average in October. Just saw flights from now through February, Boston to Frankfurt for $244 on Lufthansa.

Interesting that just on Sunday in George Hobica's column (sorry I don't remember the exact name of it), he said that almost all major travel firms WILL honor an error made in their computer systems or on the web. Your lucky day!<BR><BR>Schoene Reise und Viel Glueck!

I work for United in reservations office--keep this ticket--UA and LH are partners--Co isnt but as long as you dont want to change the itinerary--go with it..The gate agts will never know--but if you want to change dates--we will research the fare rules etc.then you will be subject to buying up.
