Just wondering, any comments about Lufthansa? We are flying them to Munich in December.

Louise, my daughter recently flew to Florence with a stop over in Munich on Lufthansa. She said it was the best flight she's ever been on. I've heard the same from others. Coach treatment doesn't vary that much from first class.<BR>Free drinks too! We had to change a non refundable ticket too, and they were very accommodating. Wish I was flying Lufthansa when I go next month, but I'm flying Delta/Alitalia directly into Venice. Have fun!

We just flew Lufthansa in coach seating to Paris with connections in Frankfurt (going) and Munich (returning).<BR><BR>In general, I rate Lufthansa lots better than British Airways and Air France. This is surprising as I read so many bad comments about Lufthansa here. It's true that their telephone reps need a review of customer service. But the food we had were special meals of seafood (salmon or salmon and shrimp). They serve o.j., water, and soft drinks during the movie and at intervals. <BR><BR>The service, however, from Europe to the US is 100% better than the service from the US to Europe. Even with the connections in Frankfurt and Munich making our journeys longer than nonstop, I'd fly Lufthansa again.

We flew Lufthansa from Frankfurt to Vancouver and back in June. I found them to be okay, but not significantly better than any of the other airlines I've flown. The flight was non-stop so connections weren't a problem, and all about the flight was efficient, but there was no extra effort above the basic expected on the part of the cabin crew. I was very surprised to find that the food was absolutely horrible and easily qualified as the worst airline meals I've ever had. That said, we had no problems and they got us there safely so yes, I would recommend them and I would fly them again.

Great airline IMO the food is As good as you can get on a airline. We've never had a problem with Lufthansa. Have a nice trip!

<BR>We flew Lufthanza from Newark to Munich with a change of planes in Frankfurt. What a horror story getting from one flight to another going back thru customs &amp; security with a 1 hour layover. Needless to say, our luggage never made it until about 24 hours later. On the return flight, they changed our reservations from Frankfurt to JFK instead of Newark. What a fiasco getting back on the Newark flight that we had tickets for. To top it off, some rude male gate attendant told us we were lucky to be on the flight and stop complaining that our original window &amp; isle seats were given away. We were to be grateful that we were on the flight. Go figure.<BR><BR>To top it off, we got to sit in the very back of the plane, and the only food we were offered when they got to us was a a horrible vegetarian dish. Puke!!<BR><BR>The only saving grace was the free drinks. Now I hear that they are taking that away on some airlines.

The seats in coach are much closer together (the pitch is smaller) than on American or United airlines. Also the food all smells the same.... fish, beef or pasta. It is certainly not my first choice of an airline.

I just returned from an r/t on Lufthansa, business class. Everything was superb and flight attendants were extremely accommodating.

If you fly on the Airbus it'll be alot nicer than the 747. Coach seating, of course, is bad no matter what airplane they use, but on an Airbus it's a bit better than on a 747.<BR><BR>We found Munich to be very conscientious about security with hand luggage checks and individual searches with a wand. But it's for a good reason and yes, because of this, you can get delayed on a connecting flight. That's why our Lufthansa rep. at CDG put us on an earlier flight so that we would have enough time for security in connecting from Munich. <BR><BR>In general all airlines don't offer the same quality as in the past. Food is secondary and it's better to bring your own if you can.

<BR>I fly Lufthansa pretty often. Their service is fine. But in case you have to connect in Frankfurt, be sure to have at least 1.5 to 2 hours between flights. It is a huge airport, and even if by luck you manage to catch your flight, your lugguage won't make it. <BR>I am not commenting on the food... I stopped complaining a long time ago. I just take a sandwich with me for the long flights and skip the meals on the short ones...<BR>AA

Most European Carriers(Lufthansa, AF, BA, VA, have a pitch of 31 inches while Delta and AA have a pitch of 33 inches. Other than that, in todays market all transatlantic carriers are pretty much the same. Sometimes the food is passable, sometimes inedible - luck of the draw. My only truely bad experience was our return flight this year on AF - the cabin was filthy, my seat was soiled and torn with a spring sticking out and a side panel in the armrest was missing with multiple wires exposed. Needless to say none of the service and entertainment elements worked, nor did my seat recline. Our flight to Europe was fine except for the hassle of connecting in CDG. Just the luck of the draw!

Pitch is the distance from the front of one seat to the front of the seat behind it. Since the seats themselves are about the same size across airlines and planes, bigger pitch translates to more legroom.

I flew on Lufthansa from the west coast to Frankfurt. It's a very long flight, I agree, but the airline is not as bad as Air France in my opinion. The one thing I disliked about Frankfurt is that to connect, you have to take a shuttle bus onto the tarmac to board the plane!

We connected in Frankfurt -- the connection time was a little over 1 hour. Forget about getting our luggage in Munich -- it came 16 hours later after you are jet lagged, want a showe,r and clean set of underwear.<BR><BR>It was a zoo clearing customs, going back thru security, and catching a 15 minute bus ride on the tarmac to barely catch our flight. No wonder our luggage didn't make it.<BR><BR>Frankfurt is the worst airport I have ever flown in and out of.

We have flown Lufthansa quite often out of Washington Dulles and through Frankfurt. Next to Lufthansa, we have taken United many times from Washington Dulles to Europe.<BR><BR>Overall, the attendants have been pleasant, and the food adequate, nothing to rave about. <BR><BR>As for the free drinks, I have always had free drinks on overseas flights, so I always thought that was the standard. But if you want specifics, the free drinks on United were from actual small bottles, whereas Lufthansa poured the drinks for you from a bottle, which really means that you get less than on United.<BR><BR>I would recommend them overall, but I also think that it's like one of the other posters mentioned--it's the luck of the draw as far as overall quality of the flight.

I've read this all with great interest as my first overseas trip is Sunday: SFO to Frankfort, Frankfort to Rome on Lufthansa. BTW, I start off on United Express to SFO to pickup Lufthansa.<BR><BR>Does anyone want to place bets whether my luggage will appear in Rome at the end of these three flights??? What is your guess? <BR><BR>I'm already praying for &quot;cold&quot; weather on the plane and layering everthing that I would normally pack on my BODY, just in case.
