Lufthansa airline & Entertainment

I will be flying Lufthansa Airways from Boston to Munich next week. I was wondering if this airline has monitors on the back of each seat for passengers to view movies and such, or if there is just one large screen for all passengers to view.

Also, all in all how would you rate your experience with Lufthansa Airways?

thanks,

LH is the last major airline to start offering personal video screen for coach. Right now, of their whole fleet they may have one or two A340-600 with it, and gradually, they'll be on other A346 and A343.

Chances are you won't have it next week.

Go to www.seatguru.com and you can get all the details for the aircraft you will be on.

I flew Lufthansa transAtlantic (Munich-Denver) in May and there were no personal video screens.

BOS-MUC is on a A340-300. It'll take a while before LH gets to install PTV on them in coach.

seatguru.com is a great reference site. I'm on that same flight next month. I fly Lufthansa fairly often and really like the airline. Nearly always on-time, efficient, friendly and best of all - still serve free beverages in coach!

I get the Lufthansa newsletter and in there it says that starting in November 2007, all seats on long-distance flights will have monitors behind each seat

LH are trialling installed seatback personal video screens in Economy/Coach on FRA to/from Detroit, Houston and Toronto flights, on two aircraft (Airbus 340-600), giving passengers a choice of touch screen control or remote handset.
So I'm afraid you won't have one on your flight next week. Once the trial is successful, LH will retro-fit seatback screen on existing longhaul fleet, with the first service from November 2007. It will be a few years till the entire longhaul fleet are so equipped. Usually there are CRT overhead monitors, plus some flat screen LCD panels on bulkheads. Ausio selection is quite good in Economy, giving a choice of around 30 channels.
LH is a dependable European carrier with good on-time record and highly professional operations. Service in Economy is quite good, without the pampering and smiles you get on Asian airlines. You get free drinks (including alcoholic) on board, and you can always order more than one drinks per trolley service. Munich is a delightful airport to use, with just a single terminal (and no satellites) for LH, with quick immigration and baggage service.

minimeike- so glad to hear about the Nov 2007 date. We fly back to the US each summer and try to use Lufthansa, but my sons get so annoyed at the lack of personal screens. The LH flights we like out of Frankfurt are better than the UA ones, but we usually end up on UA because of the entertainment options!

Please note that they start retro-fitting screens from Sep/Oct, with the first aircraft so equipped re-entering service in November 2007 at the start of the winter schedule. It will be many months and possibly years before LH's entire longhaul fleet - 75 aircraft - are fully equipped.

good point, Alec - but we won't be flying them again until next summer....so I'll keep my fingers crossed!
