LUCERNE, SWITZERLAND HOTELS

Need a middle range hotel in the central part of town in Lucerne. First person reports would be greatly appreciated.

Just back from a Trafalgar tour and 2 nights in Lucerne at the Hotel Schiller which is easily within walking distance of the covered bridge, tourist area, etc. I have no idea of the cost as it was part of the tour but would imagine reasonable. It was very comfortable, clean, decent breakfast, etc. You might just put the hotel name in the computer and may come up with some answers. Happy traveling. Halfpint

Hotel Des Alpes is as central as it gets, and a decent 3-star place. Great value with an outstanding view.

Here was the view from our room:

Risha, first of all, you don't have to repost every time you want to follow up. Click on your name at top of screen, find your post, then add a 'reply' and it will go to the top of the list.

Second, you have commented that Hotel des Balances was too expensive and did not comment on the 2 suggestions for Hotel des Alpes. You will get better answers if you say how much you want to spend, for a double or single?, per night.

I will offer you my experience in Lucerne, as of October 2003:
"We stayed at a plain-but-clean hotel called the Goldener Stern about 1 block behind the Jesuit Church on the other side of the river, and near the other wooden bridge. Our twin/dbl was about $90, including some breakfast. It is across from a small church whose bells ring a couple times an hour. My husband thought it bothered him, but now he says he'd go back to same hotel should we revisit.
We walked to the hotel from the train station - it's about 800 meters or 1/2 a mile. We easily walked to the old town area, up along the Museggwall, and all the way over to the Lion Monument. Lucerne is quite compact and good for walking."

The B&B (that's the actual name) is in a quiet residential area which is a 10-minute bus ride from the train station on line #1. Modern and comfortable. My single was 79 francs per night, shower down the hall, and breakfast included.

We stayed at Hotel Krone, 160ch (however after major discussions with Best Western they agreed to refund 16 franc dropping rate to 144 ch). When we got there, we were assigned a room on the 2nd floor directly overlooking the square. Since I was concerned with noise, I asked about alternatives and they offered us an apartment across the square (normally 290ch per night) at no additional cost. No elevator, but lots of room!. Loved the location!
