Lucerne and Interlaken for one day

Hello! We are going to be traveling to Interlaken and Lucerne June 7-11. We already have some extreme sport activities planned but find ourselves with one free day in each of these cities. We are interested in doing some hiking and seeing some of the famous sites like the lion monument in Lucerne. We all have the Swiss pass. Is this something that we can accomplish on our own or are we better off going with some type of Tour company. We really would love to do it on our own if possible. Any advice how to go about it? I know that we would like to either do Ricci or Pilatus in Lucerne. From what I have read Reggie is better if the weather is not clear. Is that correct? Anyway, any advice would be very much appreciated! We don't want to get over there and lose time because we haven't planned ahead.

Engleberg and Mt Titlis is much more an awesome Alpine experience- just an hour from Lucerne by train. For lots on trains and boats in the area and excursions check www.swisstravelsystem.com; www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com.

Rigi's lure is its view - crummy in cloudy weather.

Be sure to take a boat ride on lovely Lake Lucerne - would be at top of my list.

It takes 10 minutes to see the Lion of Luzern.

Don't forget to walk on the city walls - near the Lion.

You could take a boat ride on Lake Lucerne and go to Engleberg and Mt. Titlis on the same day if you get an early start.

In Interlaken - Take the cog wheel train to Schyngge Platte. My favorite.

That lion is very near the lake, you can walk there in a few minutes. I'd recommend the famous historical panorama nearby, I really enjoyed that. Also in that general area is a local history museum.

The lion is before that museum, after the Bourbaki panorama.

Besides the Lion Monument, BPanorama and walking on the walls and the iconic covered wooden bridges there is not much right in Lucerne of interest except the lovely lovely city itself - the Swiss Transport Museum a few miles east of town on the lake is one of the best of its type anywhere - fun for all ages and everyone.

The Berner Oberland pass covering trains, boats and many gondolas may be your best bet- check it out. Buy it locally at any station. Valid Lucerne and Interlaken and in between.
