Lucern or Zurich?
Staying with friends in Biel and they asked where we would like to take our daytrip. We are already doing the countryside thing but want to check out a city, and these two seems like the best choices as both are close. FYI, I have already done a search but am looking for some additional input. Does anyone have an opinion (snicker) ?

If this was a billiards game, Lucern would usually win 14-1. Some people will say 15-0.

Did you already know this? Was that why the snicker?

Best wishes,

Rex
Rex,
I would have thought that also however, after searching this site, I found many people that perfered Zurich, and a few that thought Lucern was "cheesy". I was hoping that a few more folks may chime in. The snicker was in regard to the question I ask as the is no shortage of opinions on this site.

Lucern any day of the week for me. Steve

I would day-trip to Basel, Bern, and Lausanne, and all the great spots along that circle, back to Biel. The combination of all those places makes a lot more interesting sightseeing than going to Zurich.
|
Lucern anyday. Been there twice, touristy but lovely setting. Zurich is boring. Really boring. I was just talking to someone today about Brussels and I said at least it's a ton more interesting than Zurich.
|
But Lucern gets my vote, 15-0.
Lucerne by all means... Zurich is just a big commercial city...
|
Luzern if you have only one day to use...it is much better than Zurich. This is not to say that Zurich is not interesting as well, but if you must choose, then choose Luzern. More to see and do in a more compact setting. However, if you have a chance visit Zurich also.

Lucerne, if the choice is between Zurich and Lucerne.

But I would prefer Bern with its fantastic old town (UNESCO world heritage). Much closer. Stayed there last year for 4 days and really enjoyed it.

Or go to Geneva or Lausanne. Both great.

Ingo

Take Lucerne. I really like Bern too, but Lucerne has an even more beautiful setting. Either is perfect for a daytrip.

Luzern, hands down. Much more beautiful, less hectic, mountains nearby, beautiful lake and riverfront. One of the most beautiful small cities in Europe.

Immer Luzern
Luzern and save some time for a ferry ride on the Lake. Wonderful. Spend some time oggling the jewelry in Bucherers. Zurich is just another typical city.
